I recieved the book yesterday and when it arrived I thought ‘this isn’t worth £12’.
But how wrong I was once I’d opened the envelope and settled down to read the contents with a cup of coffee. 3 hours later the coffee was stone cold and I was still reading the book.
Loads of info to be getting on with.
I’ll email Hugh when my terbine is up and running with some pics.
Thanks a lot.
Michael.
Yes I am comfortable with 1000 watt output from this machine. It will surge higher in gusts but 1 kW is a good maximum sustained output. I recommend using a 15 degree tilt on the tail hinge for battery charging. Grid tied versions can get to higher power output and for them I use a 20 degree tilt on the hinge.
What matters with battery charging turbines is the performance in lower winds and this depends on the blade size, and not the power rating. So a higher power output will not make any real difference most days, in fact it is more likely to stall the blades and give you less energy if you are not careful.
The machine in this video is a ‘high voltage’ version working at about 100 volts which is stepped down to ’12 volts’ for the batteries, via transformers. It surges to well over 100 amps (at 14 volts) in gusts. But actually this is more than the batteries really want.
what was the max. output for this device at decent wind speed, as per your book it is 1000watts,
