Servicing the 6kW Proven on Scoraig

A

undressed Proven

Covers blew off in November but it carried on working fine. The sliprings don’t much like being out in the rain but otherwise it makes no difference. Alternator is in the big black blob on the end.

we have a P6 on 9m tower, the front cowl that covers the end of the generator (round cover) fell off (I think due to the long cold weather period followed by rapid warm weather overnight). I have put the turbine on brake, but just wondered if the turbine can run okay without the cover as all other covers are attached okay and the head moves freely to the wind direction,

      Hi Paul,

sorry I only look at these comments sporadically. But there is really no issue with running with covers off and this actually helps with the cooling. I suppose there could be corrosion issues with wiring connections in the longer term if they have not been weatherproofed but I recall a time when they ran them open to the weather like this early on in the history of the turbine.

      cheers
      Hugh
